The Endowment for Inner-City Education was established in 1997 to ensure that a stable and permanent source of funding would be available to the Inner-City Elementary and Secondary Schools of the Archdiocese of New York. The Endowment's co-founders, Russell L. Carson, the late Nicholas C. Forstmann and the late Leslie C. Quick, Jr., believed wholeheartedly that the Inner-City Schools provide many of the neediest children in New York City with a high-quality, values-centered education that translates into a future filled with hope and wonderful possibilities. It was their dream that the Inner-City Schools would have an endowment to provide financial stability and to secure their future existence.

The Endowment's main focus is providing tuition scholarships for low-income children. We believe we must ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive the best possible education, regardless of need. Our scholarships provide the next generation of leaders with the tools to break the cycle of poverty — an excellent education, a sense of strong values and a belief that they can be successful in life. In addition to supporting the education of thousands of children in New York City, the Endowment also aids the Inner-City Schools by awarding substantial grants for academic initiatives and vital capital repairs. We are happy to support these schools in their goal of providing a safe, high-quality education to the young people of New York City.

In order to ensure that educational support is our one and only focus, The Endowment for Inner-City Education was created independently of the Archdiocese of New York and is incorporated as a separate, publicly supported organization with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Board of Trustees is comprised of individuals who are not only passionate about education but also financially vested in the Endowment's success, as the majority have either personally committed or directed to the Endowment financial gifts in excess of $1 million. Our Trustees actively govern the Endowment through semi-annual board meetings and more frequent committee meetings. We have a formal Disbursement Committee that reviews all disbursements, ensuring that the Endowment's spending policy is adhered to and that grant recipients are evaluated on a thoughtful and individualized basis. Committees also meet to focus on Audit, Investment and Development. To see a list of our Board of Trustees, please click here.
