Unrestricted gifts to The Endowment for Inner-City Education provide us with the greatest flexibility in allocating funds. The Board of Trustees uses its discretionary ability to meet the highest funding needs of the Inner-City Schools and their students, thus ensuring that your donation is applied to the area of greatest impact and need.
However, if you wish to restrict your gift, we would be happy to honor your request, as long as it fits within the mission of The Endowment for Inner-City Education. Here are just some of the ways you may restrict your gift to the Endowment:
Restrict Your Gift to a Program or Place
You may restrict your contribution to be used for scholarships only, capital repairs only, or another mutually agreed upon use. Scholarships can be further restricted to elementary or high school, or to a particular Endowment scholarship program (Cardinal's Scholarship Program, Community Connections program, etc.).
You may also restrict your gift to a particular geographic area (e.g., only Manhattan) or to a particular Inner-City School.
Naming Opportunities
The Endowment can accommodate donors who wish to endow a scholarship in the name of a loved one, or to contribute to a capital project that would bear a loved one's name. These contributions are typically in amounts of $100,000 or more. To discuss this option further, please contact Caren Howley, Executive Director, at (646) 794-3327. Current Use Gifts (Quasi-endowment)
The Endowment appreciates gifts that may be used for operating capital and for the development of new programs for the Inner-City Schools and their students. Such gifts may be used entirely in the year in which they are contributed (principal as well as any earned interest may be used to support the Endowment and its programs).
Donors may also specify this option when they wish their full gift to be used in one year to benefit the Inner-City Schools and their students, rather than being invested with other Endowment funds. For example, several donors to the Cardinal's Scholarship Program have directed their gifts in this way.
To make a contribution for current use, please indicate on your payment or in your accompanying correspondence to us that the gift is unrestricted and/or may be designated as current use.
